Jump Start English Native Speakers is hiring freelance English language trainers and assistant teachers for language camps and school project weeks in St. Pölten and across Lower Austria. Assignments are offered job by job. Students and experienced educators are both welcome.

Jump Start English Native Speakers is one of Austria's leading providers of English language camps and English project weeks for schools. We have a strong presence in St. Pölten and work with schools and educational organisations throughout Lower Austria and beyond.
Our trainers come from the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and other English speaking countries. Our camps and projects run entirely in English.
About the Role
- Leading English immersion sessions at language camps and school project weeks

The Freelance Basis (please read before applying)
- This is a freelance engagement, not employment
- Each camp or school project is a separate assignment
- You choose which assignments to accept
- You are responsible for your own tax and social insurance

- Starting at EUR 550 per project week, rising with qualifications and experience. Day rates for shorter school projects are agreed in proportion.

Responsibilities
- Teaching English as a native speaker to participants of varying ages and levels
- Adapting our lesson plans and workshops to the needs and level of each group
- Encouraging participants to speak English with confidence
- Creating a lively, positive and safe atmosphere
- Working closely with fellow trainers
- Representing Jump Start English with professionalism and enthusiasm
Your Profile
- English at native speaker level, with a clear and confident spoken command of the language
- Trainers hold a completed bachelor's degree as a minimum
- Assistant teachers hold a completed high school diploma as a minimum (Matura, A levels or equivalent)
- A teaching qualification or a TEFL, TESOL or CELTA certificate is a strong plus but not a must
- Practical experience teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counselling or youth work
- Well organised, team oriented, open minded and reliable
- Flexible about scheduling and willing to travel within Austria
- Current or future residency in Austria with a registered address (Meldezettel)
- Legal right to self-employed work in Austria. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens have this automatically. Non EU citizens need a residence title that permits self-employed work, such as the Red White Red Card plus, a Daueraufenthalt EU or a Familienangehöriger title.
- A student residence permit (Student Visa) does not permit freelance work and does not qualify.
- Current criminal record certificate before your first assignment, issued within the last 3 months by the police or competent authority at your place of residence
- German is not required

- Your qualifications, with the name of the institution, the subject or programme, and the year of completion (or for students expected completion).
- Your relevant prior experience, listed as organisation, your role, the age groups you worked with, and the period (month and year). Please include teaching, tutoring, camps, youth work, coaching and comparable roles.
- Your availability and scheduling flexibility, in particular which months of the coming 12 you can commit to, how much notice you need for an assignment, whether you can work full project weeks away from home, and your earliest possible start date.
- Confirmation that you understand and accept the freelance, assignment by assignment basis described above, and whether you are already registered as self-employed in Austria.
- Your current or planned place of residence in Austria and your legal basis for self-employed work in Austria (EU, EEA or Swiss citizenship, or the exact residence title you hold or have applied for).
- A current CV and copies of your certificates. Two references are appreciated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a TEFL or CELTA certificate? A recognised certificate is preferred, but it is not always required. A relevant degree, teacher training or solid practical experience with young learners counts too.
Do I need to speak German? No. All of our camps and projects are conducted entirely in English.
Do I need to live in Austria? Yes. You need to be resident in Austria with a registered address by the time of your first assignment.
Which residence permits qualify? Our trainers work on a freelance basis, so you need the legal right to self-employed work in Austria. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens have this automatically. Non EU citizens need a residence title that permits self-employment, for example the Red White Red Card plus, a Daueraufenthalt EU or a Familienangehöriger title. A student residence permit does not permit freelance work, so we cannot consider applications on that basis. If you are unsure, check with the Austrian settlement authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft or Magistrat St. Pölten) before applying.
Is this employment or freelance work? Freelance. Every camp and school project is a separate assignment with its own written agreement and its own invoice. You decide which assignments to accept and you look after your own tax and social insurance.
What do I need to sort out before my first assignment? Your right to self-employed work in Austria and a current criminal record certificate for work with children and young people, issued within the last 3 months by the police or competent authority at your place of residence. You do not need to send it with your application. We ask for it when we make you an offer.
Is this a remote or in-person role? In person, in St. Pölten and across Lower Austria. Onboarding and some training sessions take place online.
Can I apply if I am currently a student? Yes. Students with a completed high school diploma can apply as assistant teachers. Students who already hold a bachelor's degree can apply as trainers. Assignments are no more than 30 hours per project week. Please note that a student residence permit does not qualify, see the question on residence permits above.
